2. Gather your Materials. Go for a walk or wander around your backyard collecting items to use in your mandala. Bring a bag with you to carry your items. Pick up things like pebbles, acorns, leaves, stems, twigs, flowers, etc., you can find anything you think would look good. As well as interesting singular items, try to pick up multiple objects too. This way you will have enough items to go around the outside of your mandala. (If you cannot get outside you can still do this assignment indoors by using items gathered from around the house: like legos, crayons, silverware).

3. Choose a Location. Where will you build your mandala? If it is a windy day you might have to choose a protected space or even build your mandala inside. If you are at a park will you build it there or take your items home? Nature mandalas are not meant to last a long time, so wherever you build it remember it will only be temporary. (if you are indoors, try to clear a large enough floor space to use).

4. Build your Mandala. Look at the pictures to get inspiration for your mandala. Start by choosing what will be your central point. Usually it is the largest or most unique item. Then arrange your other items around it. You can rearrange the items as you like. You are the artist and however you arrange your objects your mandala will be beautiful.

5. Take a Picture. Nature mandalas are not meant to last a long time. Luckily, we have phones and cameras. Take a picture of your mandala so you can keep your artwork forever. If you print out the photo you can sign the bottom, like you would any other artwork.

Store your artwork in an Art Folder for safe keeping until we meet again. If you’d like us to see your work, email a photo to your teacher. You can also have an adult help you tag us on Instagram. @Ms.FavarasArtRoom @Ms.Kampson
