Art Challenge – Week 5 
Earth Day 


Have a newspaper? Let’s turn our newspaper into an Earth-friendly piece of art. We will use it to make our very own beautiful Earth. 

This gorgeous newspaper Earth Day Project is a perfect addition to celebrating Earth Day this year. It is a simple and beautiful project that leaves a reminder to how precious our Earth is and how we should love it and care for it as best we can. 

After all, there only is one planet Earth. 

SUPPLIES: • newspaper • bowl for tracing • pencil • black marker • watercolor paints( if you don’t have paint you can use crayon or marker) • paintbrush 

INSTRUCTIONS: 

1. Begin by using your pencil to trace a large bowl onto your sheet of newspaper. Then draw a heart in the center of your circle and a few other land masses on your Earth. 

2. Use your marker to trace over all of the pencil markings on your newspaper. 

3. Get out your watercolors. Paint the inside heart red. Then paint the land masses green and the ocean section blue. Set aside to dry completely. 

4. Finish your Earth Day craft by cutting out along the black edge of the Earth.

Grade 1- Mindful Art Ms. Pattinger Now more than ever it’s important to express our emotions. What better way than through art.:) Art can provide a healthy outlet for feelings that people need to get out. It is also another way of communicating when someone cannot always put into words. The following exercises can help your child to be more in touch with and aware of their feelings. Even reflecting on their art can give them new understanding about their feelings. 6 Image Art Sequence 1.      Scribble Warm-up 2.      Happiness 3.      Anger 4.      Anxiety/Fear 5.      Sadness 6.      How do you feel today You will need 6 pieces of paper.  For the scribble warm-up, encourage them to cover the pages with scribbles and lines. Week 6 Art Challenge Square Heads It’s like a puzzle! Cut out the tiles and rearrange them to create different characters.   Art Supplies: Access to Printer Coloring Supplies   Scissors Glue stick Step 1:  Click the  link  and  print  the grid and tiles sheets.   *if you do not have color ink or are running low only print page 1 & 2. Step 2:  Decide if you would like to use the already colored tiles or color your own. If you want to use the already finished tiles skip to the next step. I suggest creating your own tiles with your favorite colors.   To create your own tiles, color in the shapes on the blank grid using  only 4 colors . Since we are creating a face you may want to consider coloring pairs of circles the same color for the eyes.   Step 3:  Cut out the colored tiles along the grid line.
